Hamler

Hamler is a village in Henry County, Ohio. The population was 650 at the 2000 census. Founded in 1875 by John Hamler, Hamler is a rural farming community in Northwest Ohio about 40 miles southwest of Toledo and 38 miles west of Fostoria. It is located at the intersection of the former B&O and former Detroit, Toledo and Ironton (DT&I, now owned by the Indiana & Ohio Railroad) railroads and the intersection of Ohio State Route 109 and Ohio State Route 18. Hamler is also the boyhood home of composer and musician Chip Davis of the renowned Mannheim Steamroller musical group.

Hamler is a great place to watch trains. It is virtually out in the middle of wonderful Ohio farmland. You can see the CSX trains that run on the mainlines either to or from Fostoria and also catch a couple of I&O freights. In addition, there is often activity at the grain mill, which is also interesting to watch.
